Frequently asked questions
There is a lot of information throughout our website to go through, so here are answers and quick links to the questions we get most often.
You can also ask us any questions you can't find the answer to on our website via email (click below).
When do you have puppies available?
Our puppy availability is different every year, based on seasons of our females, amount of puppies in a litter and various other factors.
Please visit our planned litters page and puppies available for more precise information.
How do I secure a puppy?
1. Fill out the puppy enquiry form
2. We will read over the enquiry and let you know whether we approve it or not, and when the next litter will be with a puppy available suitable to your needs and situation.
3. When approved, you pay a $1000 deposit to secure a puppy and join the waitlist for the next available litter.
Do you transport puppies?
Yes! We have various methods of transport to get your puppy to you safely.
We often offer delivery in car around the North and sometimes South island, as well as being able to organise flights via a pet transporter all throughout New Zealand as well as internationally to many different countries.
Visit the transport page for more info and/or contact us to discuss your situation.
What's the difference between male and female?
It is important to know that every puppy no matter the gender has a personality of it's own. but there are some general differences between the genders.
Physically, males are on average bigger than females, but size greatly depends on genetics individual growth. Coat length also is different for every dog, but all our dogs are genetically long coated.

Temperament is not very different in terms of gender until they mature and hormones start to kick in.
For females this can look like...
For males this can look like...
However all our puppies come with a spay/neuter contract and this will dull hormones that would have otherwise potentially developed into problematic traits.

Myths:
It is a myth that males are calmer than a female.
It is a myth that females are easier to train than males.
It is a myth that two dogs of the same gender don't get along as long as they get de-sexed in time. Ofcourse sometimes dogs don't get along but this is then a personality clash rather than a gender issue.

Can the puppy stay at home alone while i'm at work?
Although it is possible it is not recommended. This breed is large, active and intelligent. This means keeping your dog indoors or even in a backyard all day will likely lead to a dog that is unhappy and develops behavioral issues as it is not getting the physical, mental and social stimulation it needs.
We recommend staying home with the puppy as long as possible when they are young to build the connection and house rules/training, and if you do need to work away from home once it gets older, to sign your dog up to a doggy daycare and/or have a hired dog walker.
Can I have my pick of the litter
Yes and No.
The selection process is done when the puppies are 6 weeks old as that is when their personalities start to show.
We let you pick your top 3 favourite puppies and from then it depends on:

- Which of those 3 we think is best suited to you and your circumstances.
- When you payed your deposit.
We try our best to make sure everyone gets the one they want but please be aware that this can't always happen.
Our litters are pre-reserved, so everyone is waiting for a puppy just as patiently as you, and everyone of course wants the first pick.

We know the puppies well and have been breeding for 12+ years so please trust that our judgement is generally pretty accurate when suiting puppies and owners even if its not the one you initially chose.
Can I visit the puppies/ meet your dogs?
Everyone is welcome to come for a visit to see the puppies from three weeks of age onwards. It is an important socialization aspect for the puppies to meet different and new people regularly. Our visiting days are Sundays and Wednesdays on appointment only (our puppy area is right by our home so please don't come unannounced). Please remember to be calm and move slowly around the puppies, especially with children. Please don't bring other dogs.
Most of our adult dogs are in co ownership, so they don't live with us but you are always welcome to meet the mother of the puppies when she is with us, and the father if he is living with us.

Contact us to schedule a visit. We look forward to meeting you!
Can we meet your dogs before commiting to a puppy?
If you are not in the area and can't come to visit our dogs before commiting to a puppy but want to see more of our dogs, get in touch to see if we have any puppy owners in your area that are willing to meet with you so you can see the breed in person. There are also often organised WSSD dog walks in different parts of NZ which you can come along to.
