WEEK SEVEN

Enjoy these final pictures before the puppies go to their new homes.
They now all have their microchips, been wormed, flea treated and nails clipped before going off into the big wide world. The days have been hot here lately, but they've been enjoying a little pool filled with water to cool down in.

New owners - ensure you have read our new owners puppy guide before your puppy arrives. It makes puppy life much easier when you are as prepared as possible, so you can feel confident on what you're doing and what you need, especially if it's your first dog, or your first puppy in a long time and may have forgotten these things.
And remember, even when they leave our home we are always here to answer questions, offer support/advice and LOVE receiving pictures and updates.

Also if you haven't already - join our Pandora Shepherds Facebook group and White Swiss Shepherds of New Zealand fb group to stay connected to the New Zealand Swiss Shepherd community.
In both these groups, you can post updates, join pack walks/events, organise puppy playdates, ask questions etc. It is a very supportive community. Links below:

WEEK FIVE

The puppies are in full play mode with lots of naps still throughout the day. Playing is not only for fun, but also super important for learning social behavior, how to appropriately interact with each other, their mum and of course, us humans.

Their teeth have come through and they loveee their food.
At this age, we also start to see early signs of their personalities, however it takes another week or so for this to be clear.

These pictures were taken while we had visitors coming to meet them all.
WEEK FOUR

The puppies are getting solid food now: soaked biscuits, goat's milk and special puppy mousse mixed together which they love. Of course, they still like to drink from mum Willow too.

They are becoming super playful and have been moved out of the whelping box, into a larger pen where they have toys and have space to run around.
WEEK THREE

The eyes and ears have opened fully and their teeth are coming through. They are interacting with each other a lot now and responding to us. Today was their first experience outside.

We have given all puppies and Willow a worm treatment. This is routinely done around 3, 5 and 7 weeks of age, because young animals are much more susceptible to get worms and to sustain damage from worms. We start with a very mild worming product with 3 week old puppies. It is not advised to use worm or flea treatment at the same time as vaccinating your puppy, wait 10 days to avoid overloading your puppy's immune system.
We advise all our puppy owners to worm their puppy at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months. After that, twice a year. Using a broad-spectrum worming tablet like Drontal from the vet, online or farm supply shop, that covers all worms. You can also use a natural treatment like apple cider vinegar on a regular basis in their water or food.
WEEK TWO

The puppies are growing fast. Their eyes and ears are now opening, their mobility is developing to crawling through the whelping box, starting to interact with each other and responding to us. They still sleep and drink for the majority of the time. This week there are photos and a video of them.
WEEK ONE

When the puppies are born, they are born deaf and blind and their main needs are warmth and milk.
We make sure they are getting both.

For the first few weeks, we monitor their weight to make sure the smaller ones are getting enough to drink. Especially in the first few weeks, a steady weight increase in all of the puppies is crucial for good health.

The whelping box gets cleaned twice a day, so the puppies stay dry and clean. Puppies are born blind and deaf. After 10-14 days their eyes and ears are opening up, and they start exploring.

They are just under a week old in these pictures.
